Cobh Stabilisation, Cork

this project had critical public safety risk aspects to overcome for successful completion

ByrneLooby designed the remedial works necessary to stabilise a particularly challenging high risk slope which sat behind a row of terrace houses in Cobh.

The picturesque seaside town is renowned for its distinctive buildings sitting high  above the Atlantic. The town also contains a large number of slopes in varying states of disrepair which has warranted the €4.6m Cobh Landslides project.

We were called in to undertake an urgent inspection of one of the slopes deemed to be a critical public safety risk. Following inspection, we set about designing the necessary slope remediation measures which consisted of a combination of rock bolts, rock mesh and netting.

Our design refined and value engineered a pre-existing slope stabilisation design achieving both time and material savings for our client.

Scope of Project

  • Slope remediation design of a high risk rock face which sat behind a row of occupied terrace houses.
  • Value engineering of a rock bolt, rock mesh and netting solution to achieve time and material savings.
  • Part of the Cobh Landslides Project
