Central Village is a mixed use development constructed within an existing 10m deep sandstone cutting and includes an 11 Storey split level car park with a double height undercroft and new Network Rail offices built above the cut and cover tunnels.

Working closely with our client, we played an important role in ensuring Network Rail approval for the foundation designs providing input into Form A and Form B requirements.

We also assessed the allowable bearing pressures to the tunnel walls below the office block achieving the aim of limiting deformations to 3mm following a combination of numerical analysis, finite element modelling and visual inspections.

Scope of Project

  • Geotechnical Assistance relating to the 11 storey car park and Network Rail offices for this large mixed use development in Liverpool above live rail tunnels.
  • Provided input into Network Rail Form A and Form B for the foundation designs.
  • Assessed the allowable bearing pressures on the cut and cover tunnel walls limiting deformations to 3mm.
  • Geotechnical Analysis included an appraisal of potential block/joint displacement risk for the loaded perimeter of the tunnels using numerical analysis and finite element analysis.
