Al Khor STW Phase II, Qatar

Rapid growth requires expansion of the treatment capacity of the plant

ByrneLooby are the design team leaders for the Phase II extension to Al Khor Sewage Treatment Works which will expand the treatment capacity of the plant to cope with the rapidly expanding town of AL Khor in Northern Qatar.

The current STW is designed for a population of 18,000 and under the Phase II works, it will see its capacity doubled for an expected population of 36,000.

Working closely with our client and JV partners ASCO, we are responsible for all stages of delivery from preliminary to detailed design for all Civil and Structural works to the plant. We have also reviewed the process design for the extended plant and have conduct HAZOP and CHAZOP reviews and provided designs for ancillary building services and roads as the scheme progressed.

Scope of Project

  • Phase II extension to the existing sewerage treatment works which will double its treatment capacity for a growing population.
  • Design team leader with responsibility for producing a full civil and structural design package.
  • Role encompassed a review of the extended treatment plant’s process design.
