Abu Dhabi Marina, Abu Dhabi

Bloom Properties is initiating a large mixed-use development in Abu Dhabi, on 9th Street in the Khalidiya area, adjacent to the Marine Club. The plot is 10km from the current central business district, and 35km from Abu Dhabi international Airport.

ByrneLooby have carried out a design for a temporary secant pile wall on behalf of the specialist foundation subcontractor. The secant pile wall will initially facilitate the construction of a new quay wall, which is being constructed by AST, and secondly allow the construction of a basement for the new development behind the quay wall.

The second phase of the project will involve the design of the foundations for the development and a secant pile wall to complete the 6.5m deep basement excavation. The development will be a mix of towers and low level structures over the basement areas, buoyancy pressure have been included for in the design of the piles.

The secant pile wall comprises of 1000mm diameter hard and firm piles at 750mm c/c socketed into the bedrock. The wall will act in cantilever in both directions to allow an open unobstructed excavation for the construction of both the quay wall and subsequently, the basement structure.
